Forge Cellars Riesling Les Allies 2013

Product Description

"Ripe aromas of talc, chalk, slate, quince. Ample, fleshy flavors of golden apples. The combination of grapes from two vineyards gives this wine great complexity and intensity." - Winery

100% Riesling from East Side Seneca Lake fermented on native and cultured yeasts and aged in neutral barrels.

Only 396 cases made.

Forge Cellars is a partnership between 3 like-minded and passionate friends: Louis Barruol - vigneron/proprietor of Chateau Saint Cosme in Gigondas (Rhone Valley), France; Rick Rainey - budding wine grower and resident of Trumansburg, NY, and Justin Boyette - winemaker/partner of Hector Wine Company in Hector, NY. The winery took 3 years to build with a clear intent to make the best Riesling and Pinot Noir possible from the Finger Lakes of New York. The team works with several different growers to select the grapes that represent the best of the soil, viticulture practices and general philosophies.

Les Alliés, or the Allies, is a bottling that showcases a unique vineyard, some unique barrels or just a unique blend if the vintage allows it. The 2013 vintage is composed of grapes from Sawmill Creek Vineyard and Harvest Ridge Vineyard, both on the east side of Seneca Lake. Sawmill is steep and composed largely of slate, while Harvest Ridge is long and sloping with clay and limestone soils.
